Our camera systems carry transmitters that let us locate your sewer mains and accessible laterals from the surface. When your crew needs to see a buried utility at a crossing or repair location, our hydro excavation removes the surrounding soil. Camera and sonde locating

We follow the signal from inside your sewer to locate it at the surface.

A sonde is a small transmitter built into our mainline and lateral inspection systems. As the camera travels through your sewer, a surface locator detects the sonde's signal and indicates its location and depth. This connects the reachable pipe inside your system to a position above ground when its route is uncertain.

Your camera inspection shows the pipe at the located position.

Our televising crew uses IBAK camera systems to view your sewer interior while locating the accessible run.

  • You can see connections, visible damage and obstructions in the inspected pipe.
  • Your engineer can review the footage when assessing a repair at that location.

We expose the utility at your selected crossing or repair location.

A surface location reading does not show the outside of your buried utility. Our hydro excavation crew uses pressurized water to loosen soil and a vacuum to recover it, opening the selected location so your contractor can see or reach the asset.

Potholing exposes a selected point. Where your project needs repair access, we can discuss a larger opening along with truck staging, soil handling and surface restoration. Exposure at one point does not establish the utility's entire route.

We inspect your sewer for utility intrusions before or after installation.

If your project includes utility installation near existing sewers, our cameras can record accessible mains and laterals before and after construction. A pipe or cable crossing through your sewer is a cross-bore. We document visible crossings and the surrounding pipe condition for your project team and the affected utility owner.

A suspected utility intrusion requires the affected utility owner to direct the response. Locating and camera inspection do not authorize cutting or removing that utility.

Which buried utilities does this service cover?
Our camera and sonde locating covers your accessible sewer mains and laterals. Hydro excavation exposes selected buried utilities where your project needs physical access. Tell us which asset you need located or exposed so we can confirm the appropriate service.
Can you locate a sewer lateral from the main?
Our lateral-launch camera can enter an accessible lateral from your sewer main. Its sonde provides a signal for surface locating where the camera can travel. Bends, deposits, pipe condition and access can limit how far we can inspect and locate.
Does a sonde reading give the exact depth of our pipe?
The locator reads the sonde's position and indicated depth inside your pipe. That reading is not a measurement of the pipe's outside surface or a survey-grade elevation. Where your contractor needs to see the utility at a specific point, discuss hydro excavation with us.
Can we use this inspection as clearance to excavate?
No. Sewer locating and exposure at selected points do not establish that every utility in your excavation area has been identified. Your project still needs the applicable utility-owner coordination and excavation requirements.
What should we send when requesting utility location services?
Tell us your project location, which sewer line or buried asset needs locating or exposure, and the construction or repair you are planning. Mention available maps, access points and timing. You can contact us even if your sewer route is uncertain.
